Salamin Foods is part of the Sathi Fresh group and is located in North-West Bangladesh, in Joypurhat. It is a potato trading company which sells potatoes from its own cold storage on the domestic market. In addition, the company offers cold storage services to potato growers and traders who pay storage rent. The capacity of the storage facility is 150,000 bags and the facility consists of four rooms.

As a result of the demonstrated improved storage and sorting equipment, the overall storage, and handling conditions will improve. Due to these improved conditions an increased number of potatoes can be sold to supermarkets in Chattogram, Sylhet and Dhaka for which the company receives a higher price than for the lower-quality potatoes destined for the regular local market.

Due to the improved potato quality and higher revenue potential, Salamin Foods is triggered to have more ‘own stock’ in its storage. The risk of the storage loss is therefore shifted more towards the owner of the produce, in this case Salamin Foods.

In order to enable other growers and traders to also benefit from the improved sorting equipment, the company offers ‘sorting services’.
