Sathi Himagar Ltd is part of the Sathi Fresh Group and is located in n North-west Bangladesh; in Sondharoi, Ranisankail, Thakurgaon. The company was constructed in 2020 and at this moment offers cold storage services to potato growers and traders. Sathi Himagar has the intention to start selling potatoes from its own cold storage on the domestic and export market and the project contributes to achieving this. The current capacity of the storage facility is 16,000 tons and the facility consists of four rooms of each five levels.

As a result of the investments in the imrpoved Dutch box storage, sorting, grading and packing equipment, it is expected that the overall storage and handling conditions will improve. Due to these improved conditions the quality of the stored potatoes will increase and the potatoes are more likely to be graded as eit

her export (A) or local supermarket quality (B) for which the company can obtain a higher price than from storage rent.

Since Sathi Himagar will benefit more from the sales of the high-quality potatoes to the export market or local supermarkets than from the gained storage rent, the company will be triggered to have a considerable amount of ‘own stock’ in the storage. As a result the risk of the storage loss will shift towards the owner of the produce, in this case Sathi Himagar, who also has control over the storage conditions.

In order to enable other growers and traders to also benefit from the improved sorting equipment, the company offers ‘sorting services’.
